USING GOD’S PROMISES TO BREAK OFF SIN

by on May 30, 2017

There are many Christians who are living, not under the power of the Holy Spirit, but under the power of their drives and desires. We went in our Bibles to where Jesus spoke the Word, and the evil spirits left the man who had been bound and robbed of everything of value in his life.

We’re going to begin to look at how to be in the place where God is bringing His promises to pass in our lives. We don’t have to live under the weakness of our flesh, because God has given us great and precious promises.

There are more than 7,000 promises for you in the Word of God. There are promises for your salvation, for your healing, for your material needs and financial needs – God has promises for every need that you or I could ever have.

A promise from God is really a “self-fulfilling prophecy.” In other words, it does nothing, it is idle, until you believe it, speak it and act on it. For example, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” “If you believe in your heart, and confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, you shall be saved.”

Those promises are just inactive until you believe, speak and act on them. But, thank God, when you DO believe, speak and act, God’s promises burst into your life and begin to bring the blessing of Heaven to you.

The problem for most people is they never feed on the Word of God enough to get Heaven’s faith in their hearts. Because of that, they don’t even know the promises, so they never speak nor act on the Word of God. So, they don’t receive the fullness of God’s blessing in their lives.

That’s the reason so many Christians are living in known sin and compromise. When you’re living in known sin, the enemy has a wide open door to rob and defeat you. Sin in your life as a direct result of not applying the Word of God to your heart.

2 Corinthians 7:1 says, “Having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

See, God’s done His part. He sent Jesus to die for us. He raised Jesus from the dead and brought Him up to the right hand of the Father where He prays for us day and night. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to live on the inside of us. He gave us the Word of God to bring us His will, and faith to activate blessings from Heaven.

This is the key to Philippians 4:19. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” You have faith from God, (Romans 12:3), power from the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8), you’re supported by the prayers of Christ Himself.

Hebrews 7:25 says that Jesus is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.
The condition is that WE have to be willing and obedient, like it says in Isaiah 1:19. “If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” You have to be willing, and you have to be obedient.

Willing to be blessed, strengthened and prospered by God. Willing to call sin for what it is, and leave it at the feet of Jesus. Matthew 1:21 says that Jesus SHALL save His people from their sins. That’s a promise you can receive – to be saved from your sins.

Nowhere does the Bible teach any other way! Every saint in the Bible loved and obeyed God! Not one saint ever said he or she was unable to do what God required. Or that they HAD to keep on sinning.

The devil wants you to stay weak and ineffectual. He whispers to you that nobody really obeys God. Or, that your situation is different, and your sins don’t really count. He lies to you that God doesn’t really expect you to obey Him. He deceives you that, for some unknown reason, you MUST sin.

Think about it: What commands of God MUST you break? MUST you have other Gods? Or, do you HAVE to swear? Can’t the Lord keep you from bearing false witness and lying? Is it NECESSARY to covet and want what belongs to someone else? MUST you steal? MUST you dishonor your parents? Do you HAVE to lust after your friend’s wife? MUST you cuss and swear? OF COURSE NOT!

But the enemy keeps telling you those things are natural and must be a part of your life. Well, what’s good news about THAT?

Thank God, for His promises! You do NOT have to live a life being held under and tripped up over and over again! Your past does NOT have to equal your future! Romans 6:14 says that “sin shall NOT have dominion over you!” Colossians 1:13 says that “He has (already) delivered us from the powers of darkness!”

Those are promises of God you can use as a sword of the Spirit against the enemy! You have to USE the Word of God! Ephesians 6 tells us that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God! You take those promises of God, and speak them, and act on them!

Why do you think the enemy tries so hard to keep you out of the Word of God? Because it is the Sword of the Spirit! That’s why he keeps trying to get you to drop your sword! That’s why he keeps trying to get you to drop your sword! That’s why he keeps telling you it won’t work! That’s why he keeps telling you to leave it in its sheath! And, that’s why you MUST NOT do ANYTHING the enemy tells you to do!

You take that sword and learn how to use it! Learn how to apply it to the enemy’s inroads in your life! You take the Word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit and let it bring you to victory!

Learn to believe what God says is true about you, and then act on those things! You aren’t put here to live like an animal – to live by your urges and appetites! You’re a born again, Spirit-filled child of God! You have an authority over the devil! You have victory over the world, the flesh and the devil! It’s the Word of God that cleanses you! Jesus said in John 15:3, “Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you.”
You need to read the Word, talk it, act on it and let it renew your mind and spirit. That’s what our text, 2 Corinthians 7:1 is saying. It will bring you to holiness and power in THIS life! You’re not afraid of the devil any longer! He’s afraid of the devil any longer! He’s afraid of YOU! (“Resist the devil and he will flee from you!” James 4:7)

You are the temple of God! That’s why He says “Come out from among them (people living after the world and the flesh) and be ye separate, and touch not the unclean thing; and I WILL receive you!” what a promise!!! Thank God for His promise to receive us!

He continues, “And I will be a Father to you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty!” All that’s in 2 Corinthians 6:16-18.

Break the enemy and his curses off your life! Pick up the sword of the Spirit and use it against him! Then, you’ll find God’s strength and blessing flowing in your life!
